A Study about Terms of Address between Relatives in Egyptian Arabic : Focusing on the Usage of the Terms of Address and Reference between Married Couples according to the survey results

[ABSTRACT] In this paper, the author is introducing a brief study about the way of address and reference in the Egyptian Arabic, and the characteristics that the terms and ways of address and reference have in the Egyptian society. In addition, according to the survey results introduced here, the author is making an explanation about the backgrounds that are included in the selected answers of terms of address and reference between married couples in the northern part of Egypt (Urban and Rural areas). The introduced results are about the terms of address and reference between husbands and wives in front of family members and relatives, and in front of people who are not from family or relatives. There is also a question about the terms of address and reference, which the two married couples use toward the other partner’s parents. The results introduced here show the numbers and percentages of the answers, comparing them according to gender, age, and areas of the survey respondents. In the near future, the results of this survey including the results ins this paper will be used in making a total comparison between the terms of address between relatives in the two languages; Japanese and Egyptian Arabic.
