[About this work] Site:Okaya City, Nagano Prefecture It was once the world's largest silk industry town and was known as “Silk Okaya," but it has now fallen into decline. The silk industry has had a serious effect on the city's natural environment, and the mountains have become desolate due to overharvesting of timber used for fuel. People planted trees during the 1940s. However, due to lack of people managing it, the forest became vulnerable. Currently, landslides have occurred several times in Okaya City. To solve these problems, I propose a sustainable silk factory combined with forest management. This proposal makes the forest better managed. In detail, the thinned wood will be consumed for biomass energy, capture dams, and cocoon holder, and these are used for silk industry. As long as this process is maintained, the forests will be free from disaster. The silk industry, which once triggered the devastation of the forest, will be reborn as a means to protect the forest. This proposal will be a symbolic facility for this purpose.
