Paper Puppet Play：PPP

[SUMMARY] Puppet theater in childcare is often used in a “viewing type” and there is little research on “participatory type” puppet theater. In this study, “Paper Puppet Play （PPP）,” in which children make puppets and play improvisationally, was devised and practiced, and the possibilities of puppet plays in childcare were examined. As a result, puppets of various ways of making and playing were created, and children were seen to devise their own expressions based on their own experiences. Analysis from the perspective of Laban’s theory of effort revealed that “fine touch, direct, sustained and free movement” was the most common type of movement, and overall, there was a tendency toward more “fine touch” movement and less “firm” movement. These backgrounds are thought to be due to the development of children’s self-centeredness, the characteristics of the envelope material, and individual differences in children’s personalities and playing styles. Furthermore, we proposed the addition to the spatial concept of “spaciousness” as a second Space to the perspective of analysis using Laban’s Effort Theory. In the future, we would like to further develop this practical PPP as a universal activity by diversifying the target audience toinclude people with disabilities and the elderly.
