[SUMMARY] Health, physical fitness, and motor skills are typical values of school physical education, and variety of movement and sport are its main teaching materials. These are regarded as its originality and quantified based on objective evaluation criteria. On the other hand, body is inevitably cultural being. This is why such question as “what kind of body is to be educated” is essential to consider what physical education is to be. On this topic, Toshiharu Takeuchi presents his original theory of body as subject based on his experience of body in his whole life, and body practice of drama activity and his original lesson. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to clarify main theme of education of body through consideration of Takeuchi’s theory of body as subject, leading to reconsideration of physical education.
