[SUMMARY] This study examined whether prompts to explain the cause of the events facilitate preschooler’s sharing behavior using storybooks with realistic and fantastical contexts. Forty-seven younger children（ M＝61.62 months） and forty-three older children（ M＝73.77 months） heard a story about the importance of sharing in a realistic or fantastical context. Half of the participants were asked to explain why the events in the story occurred. Then, all participants performed the sharing task （sharing 10 stickers between themselves and other child）. The results showed that older children distributed more stickers to other child in the storybook with a realistic context than in the controlled storybook, while younger children distributed the same number of stickers in all the storybooks. In addition, participants who asked to explain why the events in the story occurred more stickers to other child. These results suggest that prompts to explain the cause of the events facilitate preschooler’s learning about social aspects beyond the effect of the context of the storybooks.
