[SUMMARY] 　Children’s emotion reasoning development is facilitated by their experience of parents’ （family members’） rich emotional expression. On the other hand, little attention has been given to the qualitative aspects related to parental emotional expression. In this study, we examined how the “consistency of parental emotion expression” that young children experience is related to their emotion reasoning. Thirty-two ４- to ６-year-olds（ 21 girls, M = 70.81 months） performed a traditional emotional reasoning task and a task in which they used probability information to judge the emotional state of others. In addition, we used the FEQ-S, validated in a preliminary study, to obtain an index of the richness and consistency of the emotional expression of their parent （28 mothers, M = 39.29 years）. The results showed that the richness and consistency of parental positive emotion expression were positively related to young children’s performance on emotion reasoning. Notably, the results suggest consistency in parental positive emotion expression is more important for young children who were better at thinking statistically. This study contributes to understanding developmental and individual differences in childhood emotion reasoning.
