[About this work] We have abandoned rain. We have come to take for granted the fascinating phenomenon of rain, and it has become difficult to notice. Somehow we have lost the freshness of the rain. Through my research, I felt that people who have lived on Yakushima Island for many years, which has the most rainfall in Japan, have become particularly insensitive to the rain. This can be read from the fact that the culture of respect for nature is becoming weaker and that places to enjoy the rain and nature are not being created. What can architecture do to bring people's attention to nature, and to make rain a place to enjoy, even if only a little? This can be seen as “habituation” in the psychology of learning. We propose a place to confront the charm of nature and rain in Yakushima by incorporating the sequence of “acclimation” and “de-acclimation,” a phenomenon that temporarily dissolves, into the design.
