[Abstract]Between September 24 to 26, 2024, a study tour program, co-organized by Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the Center for Preventive Medical Sciences of Chiba University, was conducted at Charité’s Mitte Campus in Berlin, Germany, with the theme of “Environment, Climate Change and Health”. A total of 30 students–12 students from the Graduate School of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1 student from the Graduate School of Nursing of Chiba University, 16 students from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and 1 medical student from Leipzig University – participated in the program. The program featured intensive lectures delivered by 14 experts from various disciplines representing universities and international organizations in Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Japan. The lectures examined the impact of environmental factors on human health and non-communicable diseases (NCDs), incorporating discussions on their relationship with climate change from multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives. Moreover, the participants had the opportunity to visit Charité’s research facilities and the World Health Organization Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence, which was established in Berlin in September 2021 with the support of the German government as part of a health crisis initiative during the COVID-19 pandemic. This visit allowed the participants to learn about the operation of international surveillance systems for emerging pandemics and epidemics. This paper provides a summary of the three-day study tour program, the insights gained, and the challenges that need to be addressed.
