ADAPTATION PATTERNS OF CLIENTS LIVING IN THEIR HOME-Based on Qualitative Analysis of Interaction between Clients and Public Health Nurses-

The purpose of this study was to identify adaptation patterns of clients living in their home in public health nurses' home visiting environments. Interactions between clients and public health nurses were analyzed through Methodology for Developing Nursing Educational Concepts (MeDNEC), the result of which revealed four themes of clients' adaptation patterns. They were:【I. Solving problems based on knowledge and skills through learning】,【II. Depending on others because of giving up solving problems and avoiding his/her responsibility】,【III. Rationalizing to cover up problems and hide problems from others】,【IV. Persisting in his/her opinions and values on the problems】. Analysis of these patterns showed that clients were using these adaptation patterns to solve their health problems. On the other hand, they were dependent on others to solve their health problems as well. Moreover, clients rationalized their problems, and hid them from others, and they wanted to decide their behavior on their opinions and values. It was also revealed that clients were using these four adaptation patterns according to their situations and contents of their problems.
