学校教育におけるESDの実施状況と教員の意識 : 中学校、高等学校に対する全国調査の結果から
ESD practice in Japanese School Education and Teachers’ Awareness : Results of a Survey of Japanese Junior High Schools and High Schools
[SUMMARY] In recent years, ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) has been emphasized. Even in the new course of study introduced in 2020, ESD has become an important educational goal of Japanese school education. Nevertheless, ESD has not worked well in school education until now. Therefore, in this study, we conducted a questionnaire survey of junior high schools and high schools in Japan to clarify the status of ESD practice, the problems of teachers practicing ESD, and the current status of ESD teacher training. As a result of the survey, few schools are implementing ESD as school education. In particular, ESD was not often practiced in schools that were not designated as special schools that promote ESD, such as UNESCO Associated Schools. Also, in the questionnaire to the teachers, there were many opinions that they were too busy to carry out ESD and did not know how to incorporate ESD into the class. Therefore, by adding ESD to the curriculum instead of adding it to the existing curriculum, it is not necessary to increase the work of school teachers. So we need to think about how to do it. In addition, it is important to convey practical examples and methods of ESD through teacher training.
